Abstract Background Gossypium arboreum is one of the cultivated diploids which has inherent resistance against insect pests and diseases, can withstand moisture stress, needs less nutrients suitable for erratic, rainfall marginal soils. Due to its smaller boll size poor locule retentivity, adoption species by farmers very low. So, best long-linted G. genotypes with high yielding potential sowing time will be identified rainfed tracts cotton areas in India.
